The NEA/AFT-backed bipartisan NCLB inadvertently exposes the system's failures & the union-loving Obama admin thinks that part of NCLB is broken? If only teachers could read, they would've known that NCLB magically required them to actually teach students to pass simple standardized tests, nothing more, but *doh!* teachers couldn't do it even after standards were lowered to "mediocre tests."
Test obsession, narrow curricula, blaming teachers--a few problems created by the No Child Left Behind law that are unpacked in this animated video. The video details some of the problems created by NCLB and describes President Barack Obama's proposal to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and solve them.
"For decades we have been lying to students, dumbing down standards" (3:56). <== Now that's the Truth!

Not surprising since teacher failure was par for the course pre-NCLB, no problem. However, under marginal accountability & scrutiny coupled w/not being able to personally *grade* their own tests as usual, inept teachers (*redundancy... alert*) are getting the overdue "axe" post-NCLB. But instead of getting them away from children, Obama's ED calls the tests (not the teachers) "mediocre" and wants to apply the "fix" of allowing teachers back to Slackersville of the pre-NCLB days -what the video calls giving teachers "the freedom to make decisions that are in their students' best interests." Liars (3m56s).
Don't be deceived: This is about the teachers, their unions and racketeering for lots o'cash $$$, and nothing to do with educating children. That's what happens when Chicago-politics meets DC, ED gets stacked from top-to-bottom with the "worst of the worst" union reps including: (1) ED head Arne Duncan, formerly head of the lovely Chicago P.S. where kids constantly die violent deaths; and (2) the video's author, Laurie Calvert, a teacher in denial who desperately needs therapy for her victim-mentality syndrome.
NCLB: "It is a law with all sticks and no carrots" (1:32). Argh! What does that mean? Publik skool teachers are stupid, stupid, stupid.
"The (prez's) plan supports the efforts of the states to create an internationally-benchmarked Common-Core of college-and career-ready standards so that when high school graduates enter college, they won't need remedial courses" (3:04).
Eh...? More standards when teachers can't even get their students to pass "poorly-designed bubble tests." Definitely the brain wizardry of publik skool teachers. It also smacks of globalism.
